In support for the Diversity Kiwanis Club of Sioux Falls, and in partnership with the Sioux Falls Convention Center; the second annual Sioux Chef Challenge took place on Thursday, November 17th. Executive or sous chefs from local restaurants or catering companies competed to win “best dish” or “Peoples Choice Award.”
Executive Chef, Ryan Hembree, Director of Dining Services at Trail Ridge Senior Living, created “Asian Grilled Pheasant” for his entry in the competition. Chef Ryan’s exclusive educational experience includes the Culinary Institute of America’s Greystone Campus in St. Helena, CA, and the Rudd Center for Professional Wine Studies in Napa Valley. He holds many certifications through the American Culinary Federation and National Restaurant Association. Most notably, Chef Ryan was awarded the “Chef Supreme” designation on Place and Plate and recently named “Chef Par Excellence” at the Taste of Elegance in Sioux Falls, SD.
After the judging by Professor of Culinology , Michael Cheng, from SW Minnesota State University, Jim Mathis, Man in the Kitchen columnist for Etc. for Her magazine and Beau Vondra, owner of Look’s Market. Chef Ryan was awarded “best dish” in the category of “entrees,” and the Grand Prize of “People’s Choice Award.”
